• Provenance/Details: This ancient sasanian stamp seal (3rd–7th century ad) is a remarkable example of near eastern glyptic art, meticulously carved from a high-grade hardstone. the central motif features a powerful bird of prey in profile, dynamically rendered with a prominent curved beak, a stylized spiral on its breast to denote muscle contour, and deeply grooved wings that fill the circular composition. in sasanian iconography, predatory birds like the eagle or falcon were potent symbols of divine sovereignty, royal glory (khvarenah), and victory. functioning both as a personal signature for securing documents and as a protective amulet, this finely crafted piece beautifully merges administrative utility with deep spiritual protection.
