• Provenance/Details: Sasanian conical stamp seal 3rd–7th century ce ancient conical stamp seal carved from a beautifully textured, mottled reddish-brown hardstone displaying natural iron-rich inclusions and a light, aged surface patina. the circular base features a deeply incised intaglio depicting a stylized quadruped—likely a sacred bull or a stag—resting in profile, masterfully executed with the characteristic geometric, linear cuts of sasanian glyptic art. the tapered, pyramidal body of the seal expands naturally toward the base and features a drilled suspension hole near the top, now secured within a modern hammered silver setting. in the sasanian world, these portable personal seals were essential functional objects, carried daily by individuals to stamp wet clay bullae to secure documents, verify transactions, and assert ownership. symbolizes grounding, protection, and resilience.
